Cape May is a vibrant, self-sustaining community.

As we continually imagine, invent, and improve our Shell Cottages, we look locally. We boast a community of artists and craftspeople at local galleries, shops, and services. Cape May’s shopping scene has never been more diverse and interesting.

We meet all of our daily needs “on island” as well.  We buy fish from the Lobster House Market or H&H Seafood (technically over the bridge on Ocean Drive, but worth the trip!). We buy our meats from Westside Market on Broadway and keep heading up that road for vegetables from Ducky’s stand, No-Frills Farm, and – on Tuesdays in the summer – the West Cape May Farmers’ Market behind the fire hall.  By the way, we never cook on Tuesday nights; the weekly West Cape May Farmers’ Market has JB’s bar-be-que, Cape May Crab Cakes, and more along with fruits and veggies to get us through the rest of the week!

All of our Cape Island properties are biking or walking distance to the Promenade, Washington Street Mall, Cape May's famous restaurants and nightclub fun, weekly movies on the beach, Cape May's famous birding observatories, Cape May Point, Sunset Beach, West Cape May's farms and vineyards, Cape May Tennis Club, Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May, Cape May Nature Center, West Cape May Farmer's Market. We are happy to connect you to information on weekly children's camps:  tennis, horseback riding, art, and more!

One of the perks of renting a home for a vacation is getting to pretend you really live here! Explore the island on foot or by bike, chat with the store owners, and experience Cape May like a local!
